<Transport Kinetics of Succinate in Renal Basolateral Membrane Vesicles of Cadmium-Intoxicated Rabbits>

Changes in transport kinetics of succinate were studied in renal basolateral membrane vesicles (BLMV) isolated from cadmium-intoxicated rabbits. Cad-mium intoxication was induced by subcutaneous injections of CdCl2 at a dose of 3mg/kg · day for over 3 weeks. Basolateral membrane vesicles were prepa-red from renal cortex by percoll grandient centrifugation. Cadmium intoxication resulted in marked attenuation of Na+-dependent transport of succinate in ba-solateral membrane vesicles, and this was due to raduction in Vmax and to increase in Kim.
These results indicate that cadmium intoxication impairs the Na+-succinate cotransport system in the vasolateral membrane of renal proximal tubular cells.
